The Jonote Basket is traditionally made by a democratic collective of women in Central Mexico. Crafted from hand-harvested local Jonote wood and tree bark, each one taking two days to produce. These artisans are environmentally conscious, and work with organic, locally-sourced materials, while minimizing waste through recycling and composting practices. These baskets not only help to provide a positive stream of income for this hardworking and industrious group, they also help to maintain traditions which have been practiced for thousands of years.
